The top o' the World

The top o' the hill is within sight...

The ride to Blue Mound today was awesome despite the overcast skies. Brent and I headed out at 1:00 for a 70 mile hilly endurance ride, which ended up being a 70 mile hilly anerobic endurance ride. Heres why:

Facts about Mt. Horeb climb @ Blue Mounds:

1) at an average speed of 11.3 mph, it will take 12:45s to climb this hill
2) Overall climb = 2.15 miles in legnth
3) 980 vertical feet
3) Average gradient of 8.6%
4) 12-23 not reccomended for an endurance ride

This all adds up to what looks like this expression on Brent's face:

Ouch.

Yet the view from the top was well worth the pain, suffering, and sweating:

It's all in a day's work...

We stopped at Aura Cafe on Old Sauk Rd. on the way back into town. The coffee was an excellend way to end a ride like this, and with the "VIP UW Cycling" coupon, it was quite affordable too. I will be sure to stop by here many a time after a ride like today.

All in all it was an epic ride. I will be sure to ride to Blue Mounds several times next season for those ugly base miles we all need in the frigid months of January, February, and March. The hills and colorful landscape will certainly keep my mind occupied! If I had an altimiter, I'd think that our ride totaled about 6,000 ft of climbing today. Now lets do intervals tommorow!

Turns out my Tarmac frame will not be available yet for another month. I figure I'll wait and see what happens when I get the fir done at Cronometro Tuesday. Should be another epic ride on the way by then, however!

I haven't gotten any offers for a ride to Green Bay yet on Halloween weekend. I may ride back on Saturday with Rolland if my frame comes in tommorw...pictures to come of the full build, of course!

It's not cold, so get out there and ride. Again!
